The Stadium Experience:

Syracuse, NY - The Carrier Dome, known as the Loud House to the fans here, home of the Syracuse Orange. This was my fourth schlep, second since I started the tour, west on I-90 to the dome;so, I figure it would be just another trip to see Syracuse. Boy was I wrong! Either SU got sexy, or I simply missed the boat on those other visits. General parking is provided by the university at their Skytop Lot right off I-81. Shuttles are provided. I remember doing that last time and hated it! Now that I am no longer a rookie on this college venue thing, I started scouring the area for those local people who will let you park for a few dollars. I found a few such places right near the stadium under I-81. They were charging a mere $10-$15, and were a quick walk. I noted those, and rolled on. I found street parking a short distance form there for FREE! I want to add that if you fear sketchy neighborhoods your better off hitting the Skytop lot. Since I'm from the Bronx there were no worries. Parking grabs a 10. As we walked toward the stadium we were fortunate enough to catch the visiting team buses roll up. Watching the #3 Clemson Tigers stroll in was an unexpected treat. Continuing along our path to find the 'stuff', we ended up at the Quad, where we encountered lots of people and happenings. The band was giving a pre-game concert. Otto and the band helped on a marriage proposal. Otto then buzzed by us, so that we could take a few shots. Many thanks to Julie Walas for making that happen. We can't thank you enough. We were, also, able to snap a few with the dance team, a few band members, and the Ernie 'The Express' Statue. The fanfare wowed me, because I don't remember it ever being like this - 9. The fans were pumped and ready to be LOUD! The 'Loud House' definitely lived up to that early on. I sat near several nice people that high-fived with us and chatted. This was not the Syracuse I was looking for. ;) It was LIGHT YEARS better. - 9. By the way, did I mention that SU plays in a dome? Nothing to see from here - EVER. That doesn't detract nor add to the experience for me - 5. Yes, I have my bias for mountains, but domes shouldn't take a hit. Concessions were reasonable - considering. I can add SU to the list of college only venues that sell beer so far. Ya hear me Tempe? :) Concessions gets an 8. The new look SU shocked me and totals to a whopping 41. Huige change over the 18 I gave a few years back. It must have been me. Looking forward to another quick 2 hour jaunt down the thruway to see the Orange again. No game next week or for the next month. Vacation in the middle of football season. ugh! yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. It sucks to be me. ;)
