The Stadium Experience:

East Lansing, MI - Home of the Michigan State Spartans. Was it true? Was a Michigan man really wearing an MSU t-shirt? Yes, I was, and I actually had a fun experience. After parking for a mere $20 about a mile away (that nets a 7), we walked thru a sea of green and white enroute to Spartan Stadium. Having been unable to find any information on pre-game activities on the Spartan website, we were winging it. I asked people as we strolled along towards the stadium where does the band give a pre-game concert. I received naught but shrugs until I asked a man who was simply wiping his hands. Steve Moerdyk, quarterbacked here at MSU, decided to help out two poor travelers, not by directing us, but by inviting us to his tailgate. Thanks again, Steve. We had a blast! We never found the band, cheerleaders, nor Sparty. Hanging with Steve and company made up for that. I have to give this fan experience an 6 as a whole, but a 10 for Steve's kindness. Climbing the ramps to get to the upper deck of Spartan Stadium is quite the workout. The fans we encountered at the top were exhausted as well, but great sports about joking about the climb. The fans were into the game - chanting and hooting. I have to give the MSU fans a 7. Not much to see on a Friday night from Spartan Stadium, not much to see on any night really. Standard non descript views, although the sky was pretty before the rainclouds came - 5. Concessions were pricey, but what does one expect at big time college football - 4. Spartan Stadium has the unenviable memory of having my experience cancelled. Lightning storms with POURING rain entered the area, and they evacuated the stadium a bit more than mid-way thru the 2nd quarter. We dodged massive raindrops and thousands of people on our way to the car. I must admit it was FUN! I may have to return to Spartan Stadium to get a full experience. I can do so, since my shirt is still wet, and can't be burnt. ;) MSU gets a 29. Next game has us heading to hallowed ground at the University of Michigan.
